AGO Phonics Zero helps beginning readers develop decoding skills through fun, interactive card games. Using simple 3-letter words (CVC words), children build confidence reading real words while learning through play.
Unlike the other AGO Phonics levels, Phonics Zero includes two unique decks that work together to provide different types of reading practice.
Deck 1 – Picture-supported reading
Children practise reading 96 carefully selected beginner words, each supported by a clear illustration. The pictures help reinforce meaning while encouraging learners to sound out and read each word.
Deck 2 – Extra decoding practice
The second deck takes a different approach. Instead of pictures, each card contains six simple words to read, giving learners extra decoding practice using the same phonics patterns. This unique deck helps build reading fluency and confidence while providing a fresh and engaging challenge.
The two decks can be played separately or combined together to create original AGO games with different difficulty levels, giving children many enjoyable ways to practise the same reading skills.
